Ingredients

  • 1 lbs Ground Beef Lean
  • ½ cup Onion Diced
  • ½ cup Green Bell Pepper Diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese Shredded
  • 32 oz Frozen Tater Tots

Equipment

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Add the ground beef and diced onion to an oven safe skillet over medium-high heat. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is tender, breaking the beef apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  2. Add garlic and green peppers cooking a few more minutes until fragrant and tender.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and salt. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes so the flavors can come together.
Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
  4. Sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef mixture.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots over the top of the cheese. You can place them in neat rows or simply spread them evenly over the casserole. For the crispiest topping, try to avoid overlapping the tots too much.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the casserole is bubbling around the edges. Top tater tots with an additional cup of cheddar cheese and cook 5 more minutes until melted.
For an extra-crispy topping, you can place the casserole under the broiler for 1-2 minutes at the end. Keep a close eye on it so the tots don't burn.
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
