Craving a warm, gooey apple crisp but can't tolerate gluten or oats? Well, no problem because this recipe is for you! This gluten free apple crisp without oats is an easy fall dessert made with tender cinnamon apples and a buttery, crumbly topping. Baked on a sheet pan instead of in a traditional baking dish, this apple crisp is simple to make and perfect for serving a crowd.
Delicious Gluten free Apple Crisp Without Oats, Your New Favorite Fall Dessert!
This gluten free dessert for Fall is perfect for a cozy night! Traditional apple crisp is not necessarily gluten free because many recipes use all-purpose wheat flour in the crumb topping. Some recipes also contain oats, which can be a concern for people who need to strictly avoid gluten.
Serve it for Thanksgiving, a fall dinner, a weekend brunch, or anytime you have extra apples to use.
What Makes This Apple Crisp Different?
Instead of baking the apples and topping in a traditional casserole dish, this recipe is made on a sheet pan.
The larger surface area gives the apples plenty of room to spread out while the crumb topping gets golden and crisp.
And since the topping is spread across the apples rather than packed into a deep baking dish, you get lots of those buttery, cinnamon-coated crumbs in every serving.
Streusel Topping Without Oats!
So many of you diagnosed with Celiac Disease can not tolerate oats, even those that are labeled gluten free, or purity protocol oats. Typically, most desserts with a crumble topping contain oats. Because of this, I wanted to create a gluten free apple crisp recipe without oats that everyone can enjoy!

What Are the Best Apples for Apple Crisp?
You can use several different varieties of apples for this gluten free apple crisp recipe.
I especially like apples that hold their shape while baking while still becoming tender. Granny Smith apples are a great choice because their tart flavor balances the sweetness of the topping.
Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Braeburn, and Fuji apples can also work well.
You can even combine two varieties of apples for a mixture of sweet and tart flavors.

Instructions on How to Make This Perfect Apple Crisp with a Crumbly Top!
- Preheat the oven and prepare the apples
First, begin your baking by preheating your oven to 375 degrees.
While the oven is preheating, use a large bowl to place the apple slices in. Continue to add your mixture of your measured ingredients to the bowl and mix! Once well coated, spread the apple mixture across a large baking sheet until even.
2. Prepare the gluten free crumb topping
In a separate bowl, combine the ingredients for the crumble topping. Make sure to press the cut-up butter into the mixture with a fork until the crumbles appear.
3. Assemble the sheet pan apple crisp
Spread the prepared apples evenly across a sheet pan.
Sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples, making sure to distribute it as evenly as possible.
Don't worry if some of the apples peek through. The topping will spread slightly as it bakes.
4. Bake
Bake until the apples are tender and bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
The exact baking time can vary depending on the thickness of your apple slices and your oven.
Allow the crisp to cool for several minutes before serving. The filling will thicken slightly as it cools.
Can I Make This Gluten Free Apple Crisp Ahead of Time?
Yes. You can prepare the apple crisp several hours before serving.
For the best texture, allow it to cool and then cover it at room temperature until you're ready to serve. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the entire sheet pan in the oven if you want to serve it warm.
If you're serving this for Thanksgiving or another holiday meal, you can prepare the crisp earlier in the day and warm it shortly before dessert.
