These Grain Free Crispy Chicken Meatballs are a healthier and delicious take on classic fried chicken! They taste just like they are deep fried, but instead are browned in a skillet and then baked until crisp. They're flavorful, juicy and made without any gluten, grains, dairy and they're also egg free too.

Gluten Free Meatballs Made with Ground Chicken

Hold onto this recipe because it will quickly become a family favorite! These are the best ground chicken meatballs recipe and my kids LOVE them. They're easy to make ahead, so I like to make a big batch and have them on hand for meals throughout the week or easy lunches.

Why You'll Love These Grain-Free Chicken Meatballs

  • Completely gluten-free and grain-free: perfect for those with celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or anyone avoiding grains.
  • Packed with protein: made with lean ground chicken for a light but filling option.
  • Meal prep friendly: freeze before or after cooking for quick and easy meals.
  • Versatile: serve them with spaghetti squash, gluten-free pasta, or even as an appetizer with dipping sauce.

Ingredients You'll Need

  • Ground Chicken. I use organic lean ground chicken.
  • Seasonings. You'll need a variety of seasonings, but you should already have most in your pantry.
  • Tapioca Flour. This grain free flour is what gives the chicken its crispy coating.

That's it! No need to run out to the store for any crazy ingredients with this recipe!

How to Serve

Pretty much anything goes with this homemade meatball recipe!

  • Serve the chicken meatballs with pasta and marinara sauce, or spaghetti squash for a low-carb option.
  • Top them on a bed of greens with your favorite dressing.
  • You can also experiment with other sauces- turn them into buffalo or teriyaki chicken meatballs then serve over rice. Sometimes I just eat them alongside some roasted vegetables.

Make these healthy chicken meatballs an appetizer! Roll into smaller balls, stick a toothpick in, serve with your favorite dipping sauce, and you have an easy appetizer for your next gathering.

This recipe also works great as crispy chicken patties! Just flatten the chicken mixture instead of rolling into a ball. Dip into the tapioca mixture and cook as directed.

Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 2 lbs Ground Chicken
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • Ground Pepper to taste
Coating
  • ½ cup Tapioca Flour about 6 tablespoons
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°
  2. In a large bowl, season the chicken with salt, pepper, and baking soda. Mix well.
  3. In a separate smaller bowl, combine the coating ingredients.
  4. Using your hands, roll chicken into balls, and then roll the ball into the coating mix covering on all sides. Set meatballs aside on your baking sheet until you have them all rolled.
  5. Heat 1-2 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over med-high heat.
  6. Place half of the meatballs in a single layer in the pan. Cook until they're browned on all sides. Transfer the meatballs back to the baking sheet. Add another tablespoon of oil to the pan and brown the remaining meatballs.
  7. Place the baking sheet of meatballs into the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
