This is the best gluten free Christmas Crack recipe! It's quick, simple and requires only a handful of ingredients taking less than 30 minutes to make from start to finish. The combination of gluten free crackers, homemade toffee, and rich chocolate creates that classic "crack" texture everyone loves, leaving your taste buds with a little sweet, crunchy, and a little bit salty.

Why You'll Love This Gluten Free Christmas Crack!

There are certain holiday treats that never fail to bring back childhood memories, and Christmas Crack is one of them. This irresistibly sweet and salty dessert made from buttery toffee, melted chocolate, and crispy crackers was a staple in our kitchen every December. I remember helping my mom make it as a kid, stirring the bubbling caramel and lining a tray of saltine crackers. Back then, it wasn't called Christmas Crack, and we also had no idea what "gluten free" even meant!

Years later, when my own daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I knew we'd have to make some changes to our traditional holiday recipes, but there was no way I was giving up Christmas Crack! It's surprisingly easy to make gluten free Christmas Crack that tastes just as dangerously addictive as the original.

This is the perfect holiday dessert for cookie exchanges, neighbor gifts, or Christmas movie nights. Plus, it's easy to customize with toppings like crushed peppermint, chopped nuts, or festive sprinkles.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • 1 package gluten free crackers I used Schär Table Crackers.
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 cups chocolate chips. Milk, dark, or semi-sweet

Optional toppings: crushed candy canes, chopped pecans, or holiday sprinkles

Instructions on How to Make Christmas Crack

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Arrange crackers in a single layer to completely cover the pan. Breaking some to fit if necessary!
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a gentle boil and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens into toffee.
  4. Pour the hot toffee evenly over the crackers, spreading with a spatula to cover every corner.
  5. Bake for 5 minutes until the toffee bubbles. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
  6. Let the chocolate sit for 2 minutes, then spread evenly with a spatula.
  7. Add your favorite toppings! Crushed peppermint or sprinkles for a festive flair or flakey sea salt for a sweet and salty bite.
  8. Cool completely in the refrigerator for about 1 hour, then break into pieces.

Store in an airtight container for up to one week or freeze for up to a month.
