What Are Spritz Cookies?
Spritz cookies (or Spritzgebäck in German) are delicate, buttery cookies pressed into festive shapes using a cookie press. They're a staple in holiday cookie tins and often flavored with vanilla extract. Traditionally made with wheat flour, this gluten free version delivers the same texture and taste so you won't be missing out!
Ingredients for Spritz Cookies
Here's the ingredients you'll need!
- Butter, egg, sugar, vanilla extract and salt.
- Flour: Grab your favorite Gluten Free 1 to 1 baking flour. I have also used Bob's Red Mill 1 to 1 flour with great results!
- Equipment: Mixing Bowl and Mixer, Cookie Press and a Baking Sheet
- Food Coloring and Decorations. Before baking, color the dough and sprinkle with colored sanding sugar, crushed peppermint, or nonpareils. After baking, you can drizzle with melted chocolate or powdered sugar glaze for a more festive touch.

There are a lot of options out there, but we used Watkins Natural Food Coloring to make these christmas trees green! You can also find many options for dye-free sprinkles and sugar crystals with a quick Amazon search.
Storage Suggestions
Once cooled, store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. To freeze, layer cookies between parchment paper in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.
These Gluten Free Spritz Cookies are freezer friendly with no change in taste after thawing! We start our Christmas cookie baking early, pop them in an airtight container in the freezer then defrost overnight when needed. Usually on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning so they're thawed by dessert time!
