Why You'll Love These Almond Flour Waffles

Made with simple pantry staples, these waffles come together in just minutes and cook up beautifully in your favorite waffle maker. Even better? They're naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free, and packed with protein and healthy fats from almond flour, making them a satisfying breakfast that will actually keep you full.

What ingredients do I need to make this Almond Flour Waffle Recipe?

One of my favorite things about this homemade waffle recipe is how simple it is! Unlike many gluten free waffles, almond flour is packed with protein and creates a rich, buttery flavor and tender texture.

  • Almond Flour
  • Tapioca Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Eggs
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Plant-Based Milk

Optional for a Sweet Waffle

  • Maple Syrup
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Cinnamon

Almond Flour or Almond Meal?

Almond FLOUR is a must for these waffles to turn out right.  Do not use almond meal which is very grainy.

Make sure to use high quality almond flour that is blanched and finely ground like this one, or we love using the Kirkland brand almond flour from Costco!

Are almond flour waffles keto?

They can be. Simply omit any sweetener or replace it with your favorite keto-friendly sweetener.

How to Make Almond Flour Waffles

  • Start by preheating your waffle maker while you mix the batter.
  • In one bowl, whisk together the almond flour, tapioca flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add in the eggs, oil, and milk until smooth.
  • Stir until everything is combined. Let the batter rest for about 5 minutes so the almond flour has time to absorb some of the liquid.
  • Grease your waffle iron lightly and scoop in the batter according to your waffle maker's instructions.
  • Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp. Resist the temptation to open the waffle maker too early. Letting them cook completely helps create those delicious crispy edges.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

These waffles are delicious all by themselves, but toppings make them even better!

  • pure maple syrup
  • fresh fruit
  • Greek yogurt
  • chopped nuts
  • jams
  • coconut cream
  • peanut butter/almond butter
  • chocolate chips

For a savory twist, skip the maple syrup in the batter and top your waffles with a fried egg, avocado, and crispy bacon.

Storage and Freezing

These waffles are excellent for meal prep.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

To freeze, let the waffles cool completely before placing them in a freezer-safe bag with parchment paper between each waffle.

When you're ready to enjoy one, simply pop it into the toaster or air fryer until hot and crispy again.

I love making a double batch because they freeze beautifully and reheat perfectly in the toaster. It's one of those recipes you'll be grateful to have tucked away for busy mornings when everyone wants a homemade breakfast without the extra work.

Whether you pile them high with fresh berries and maple syrup or keep them simple with a pat of butter, these grain-free waffles are sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients Equipment Method Nutrition Notes

Ingredients

  • 1-½ cups Almond Flour finely ground
  • 4 tablespoon Tapioca Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 3 Eggs
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • ⅓ cup Plant-Based Milk unsweetened
Optional
  • 2 tablespoon Pure Maple Syrup or sweetener of choice
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract

Equipment

  • Waffle Iron

Method

  1. Preheat waffle iron.
  2. Add flours, baking powder, eggs, salt and oil to a mixing bowl. Stir to combine. If making a "sweet" waffle, add in the optional ingredients- pure maple syrup, cinnamon & vanilla extract.
  3. Slowly add milk and mix until you have a batter consistency. If needed, add more milk by the tablespoon if the batter is too thick, but it shouldn't be!
  4. Grease your waffle iron and pour batter onto the center of the hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Cooking time varies depending on your waffle iron.

Notes

I like to make these waffles with no added sweetener in order to keep them versatile to use with a variety of different toppings. However, for a classic "sweet" waffle, go ahead and add the optional ingredients of pure maple syrup, cinnamon and vanilla extract.
Make Ahead: Waffle batter can easily be made ahead and refrigerated in an air tight container for up to 5 days. Before using, stir well.
Freeze: You can freeze cooked waffles and then reheat in the toaster or oven.
