Why You'll Love These Healthy Apple Nachos

My daughter would eat apples all day if I let her, no joke. Don't get me wrong, it's a great thing that she loves her fruit, but we needed to get some more nutrition into her throughout the day. So, we started making these loaded apple nachos a few years ago and she LOVED them.

Even better, she loved this snack so much, probably because of the chocolate, that she wanted to get in the kitchen and help make it! She drizzles the peanut butter and sprinkles on the toppings herself, so if you have kids, get them involved in making these apple nachos with you.

Apple Nachos are a Delicious Healthy Snack!

Growing up, my mom always made apple slices with peanut butter for an after-school snack. It was simple but always hit the spot. Now that I'm a mom myself, I've taken that same idea and turned it into something even more exciting! My kids love building their own "plates," and I love that it's a quick, wholesome treat with zero baking and minimal cleanup.

This snack is as simple as it gets! Since this recipe isn't really a recipe, but more of a guide, it's completely flexible. Feel free to add toppings in any amount you like and use as many apples as you need for the amount of people you'll be serving.

Does it matter what kind of apples you use?

Not at all! We love to use honey crisp or granny smith, but again, it's up to you! Try to circle your apples similar to the picture to be sure your toppings are spread evenly onto all slices. Then warm your nut butter, drizzle and layer your toppings!

    Ingredients You'll Need

    • 2 crisp apples. Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work best.
    • 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter. Or almond butter for paleo
    • 1 tablespoon melted dark chocolate or dairy free chocolate chips.
    • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts. Or your favorite gluten free granola.
    • 1 tablespoon shredded coconut
    • Dash of cinnamon (optional)

How to Make Loaded Apple Nachos

    1. Slice the apples: Core and thinly slice the apples into round chips or wedges. Arrange them in a single layer on a serving plate.
    2. Drizzle: Warm the peanut butter slightly so it's easier to drizzle, then drizzle it generously over the apple slices.
    3. Add chocolate: Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over top.
    4. Top it off: Sprinkle with nuts, coconut, mini chocolate chips, and cinnamon.
    5. Serve immediately: Enjoy fresh, or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes if you prefer chilled nachos.

Tip: If you're serving these at a party, toss your apple slices with a splash of lemon juice to prevent browning.

    Variations and Healthy Swaps

    • Dairy-Free: Use dairy-free chocolate chips or a drizzle of maple syrup.
    • Nut-Free: Swap peanut butter for sunflower seed butter.
    • Protein Boost: Add a sprinkle of hemp seeds or drizzle of Greek yogurt.
    • Dessert Version: Add crushed gluten-free pretzels or a sprinkle of sea salt for that sweet-and-salty combo!

These Healthy Loaded Apple Nachos are perfect for any time of year, but especially during fall when apples are at their best. They make a great after-school snack, movie-night treat, or even a simple party platter that looks beautiful on a board.
