Why You'll Love this Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie Recipe

If you're craving something rich, chocolatey, and satisfying, but still want to keep things simple and nourishing, this peanut butter cup smoothie is the perfect blend of both. It has all the indulgent flavors of a classic peanut butter cup, but is made with wholesome, gluten free and dairy free ingredients you can feel good about.

Whether you're looking for a gluten free breakfast smoothie, a kid-friendly snack, or a high-protein dairy free smoothie, you have to try this one!

More Than Just a Recipe!

When my daughter was just 7 years old, we knew something wasn't right. For a long time, she wasn't gaining weight and growing the way she should have been. Eventually she was diagnosed with "failure to thrive". Doctor's appointments became routine, and after a few years of questions and testing, we finally had an answer- Celiac Disease. While it was a relief to have clarity, it also meant completely rethinking the way we approached food in our home.

At first, I was just trying to create something calorie-dense and nourishing that she would actually enjoy. She already loved anything chocolate and peanut butter, so I leaned into those flavors and started experimenting. The result was this creamy, rich, gluten free peanut butter cup smoothie that tastes like a dessert but is packed with ingredients that support growth and energy.

It quickly became one of her favorite "treats," and honestly, mine too!

Ingredients You'll Need to Make This Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie

This healthy smoothie recipe comes together in just a few minutes and uses simple, wholesome ingredients you likely already have on hand.

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 cup dairy-free milk (I use this flax milk with protein)
  • 4 heaping tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • A few acocado slices- makes the smoothie extra creamy, adds healthy fats and you won't even taste it!
  • 1-2 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour into a glass and, if you'd like, drizzle with extra peanut butter or chocolate syrup.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips for Making Smoothies More Nutrient Dense

When I was focused on helping my daughter gain weight, I found small ways to boost calories without changing the flavor too much. If you're looking for a high calorie gluten free smoothie for kids, here are a few easy add-ins:

  • A tablespoon of chia seeds or ground flaxseed
  • A scoop of flavorless protein powder
  • Extra peanut butter for added calories

These little upgrades can make a big difference, especially if your child needs extra support with growth.

Even years later, this peanut butter cup smoothie still holds a special place in our home. It reminds me of a time when everything felt uncertain, but also of how resilient kids can be, and how something as simple as a smoothie can help make a difference.

If you're navigating a gluten free lifestyle with your child, know that it does get easier. You'll find your go-to recipes, your safe ingredients, and your every day rhythm. And sometimes, those recipes become more than just food. They become part of your story.
