If you're looking for a bold, crowd-pleasing dish that's both gluten free and bursting with flavor, look no further than this Gluten Free BBQ Chicken Totchos recipe. Combining the crispy crunch of tater tots with smoky barbecue pulled meat and gooey cheese, this dish is a mashup of nachos and comfort food, without any gluten anywhere in sight!
What are Totchos?
Totchos are exactly what they sound like- tater tot nachos. Instead of tortilla chips, the base is made from crispy baked or fried tater tots, topped with your favorite nacho-style ingredients. Think cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, green onions, and more. In this BBQ-inspired version, we add sweet and tangy pulled meat, gluten-free BBQ sauce, and a handful of crave-worthy toppings.
Every bite is loaded with smoky barbecue flavor, gooey cheese, fresh veggies, and creamy toppings. Best of all, this recipe comes together on one sheet pan, making cleanup almost as easy as the recipe itself.
Whether you're hosting a game day party, craving an easy weeknight dinner, or just want to impress your friends with something different, these BBQ totchos are guaranteed to hit the spot.
What Ingredients Do I Need to Make This BBQ Chicken Totchos Recipe?
Finding comfort food that fits a gluten-free lifestyle doesn't have to be difficult. This recipe is made with gluten-free tater tots, your choice of BBQ protein (pulled pork, chicken, or jackfruit for a vegan option), and a rich gluten-free barbecue sauce. Double-check your cheese and toppings for hidden gluten (especially sauces and spice blends), and you're good to go.
Here's what you'll need:
- Frozen Tater Tots. Check ingredients and be sure the package states gluten-free.
- Chicken Breasts. Cooked and shredded, or use already cooked rotisserie chicken. If you have leftover pulled pork, that works too!
- BBQ Sauce. We love Stubb's because it has clean ingredients and it's certified gluten-free.
- A Variety of Veggies. Chopped peppers, onions, green onions, lettuce, sliced jalapenos, banana peppers etc.

Serving Suggestions
These loaded BBQ totchos are hearty enough to serve as dinner but also make an incredible appetizer.
Pair them with:
- Fresh coleslaw
- Corn on the cob
- A simple garden salad
- Alongside other game day appetizers!
They're perfect for backyard cookouts, family gatherings, birthday parties, or anytime you're feeding a hungry crowd.
Totchos are definitely best enjoyed fresh while the tater tots are crispy and the cheese is perfectly melted.
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
For the best texture, reheat them in the oven or air fryer until the tater tots become crispy again. I don't recommend microwaving them since they'll lose their crunch.
